Running 26 miles is a major achievement. It takes dedication, discipline, commitment and determination – all qualities that we value highly at Dresdner Kleinwort. That’s why we are proud to have sponsored the Frankfurt Marathon for the last two years – and to support our employees who chose to take part.
Following the acquisition of Dresdner Bank by Commerzbank earlier this year, we are delighted that Commerzbank will take over our title sponsorship until 2011 - an indication of how highly this outstanding event is valued. See press release (in German language only).
Held in Germany’s financial centre – and one of Europe’s financial hubs – the Frankfurt Marathon is one of the key international marathon events. The route takes in some of the best known sights of Frankfurt before finishing in style on the red carpet of the city’s Festival Hall.
Renowned as a fast and flat course, the race has produced some impressive times in recent years. But it’s not just about elite athletes producing outstanding performances – the Frankfurt Marathon offers fun for people of all ages and abilities. The race programme includes the Struwwelpeter Run for children aged four to nine (420m), the Mini Marathon (4.2k) for children aged ten to sixteen, and the Pretzel Run (5k) – our Saturday morning Breakfast run. Alternatively, if running’s not your thing, there are street parties, live bands, and much more.
Last year’s Frankfurt Marathon took place on 26 October 2008 and attracted a record number of participants. Over 14,500 runners, including 372 from the Allianz Group, were cheered on by thousands of supporters, who lined the city’s streets. Robert Cheruiyot (Kenya) set a new Frankfurt Marathon record with a time of 2:07:21, whilst Sabrina Mockenhaupt (Germany) was first in the women’s class with 2:26:22.
